Wife of Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, Stella Wilson Agyapong has been revealed to be a ‘silent’ Board Chairman of the Ghana Shippers Authority since September 2017, when the Minister of Transport, Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah swore her in; MyNewsGH.com can authoritatively report.
This comes following embattled GFA President’s allegation that the Transport Ministry was ‘dashed’ to Kennedy Agyapong by President Akufo-Addo. While unproven, this, revelation following the publication of the name of Mrs Agyapong in the official brochure of the Ghana Shippers Authority, a key Transport Ministry agency, as Board Chairman will raise eyebrows.
The wife of the loud-mouthed NPP MP Kennedy Agyapong, Mrs Stella Agyapong first made the news this year over a sole-sourced contract of GHC100.2 million (1.2trillion old cedis) to suppy streetlights to the Ministry of Energy which MyNewsGH.com published.
Her husband defended the 100.2 million contract on Adom TV, insisting she was qualified for it as she is a Ghanaian and a businesswoman who also deserves to make money.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority Dr. Agyenim Boateng Agyei also parried off claims of wrongdoing and procurement breaches in the award of contract to the wife of the NPP firebrand, fire-spitting Kennedy Agyapong, insisting she met the requirement for sole sourcing.
Mrs Stella Agyapong’s Imperial World Ventures, landed the GH¢100,260,000.00 contract through sole sourcing at the Ministry of Energy to supply 150W LED streetlights.

The Assin Central MP who denies that due processes were sidestepped in the award of the contract argues that his wife deserved commendation instead of criticisms.
“My wife’s contract was not sole-sourced. It was a restricted [limited] tender. She qualified for it, the reason she was awarded. Those accusing her should desist from that because that won’t stop her from doing the right thing,” he had said as MyNewsGH.com reported at the time.
And the PPA Boss seconded the argument. In his words:
“If your wife is doing business and you join politics, must her business stop working? I believe strong that Kennedy Agyapong is not a minister of state and does not hold any public office so if his wife has won a contract, what is the beef about that. We don’t have the capacity to know whose family member is tending in a bid for a contract”.
The Ghana Shippers Authority was established in 1974 by NRCD 254 with a core mandate to protect and promote the interests of shippers in relation to port, ship and inland transport. The Authority has been working with both the public and private sector organizations in the shipping industry to provide logistics support and improve service delivery in the shipping industry.
During the inauguration of the board, The Board Chairperson, Mrs Stella Wilson Agyapong assured the Hon. Minister of Transport that the Board will collaborate with the Authority’s management and industry stakeholders to attain the organisation’s set objectives.
